What is Tora-Connect?

Tora-Connect Logo

The katakana on this year's logo reads "konekuto", or "connect" in Japanese.

Tora-Connect is our very own brand of online con! It will be taking place on March 20th, 2021 in place of Tora-Con. Because of COVID-19, there have been many restrictions put in place in New York State to keep everyone safe. This means that Tora-Con is unable to be held in its original form. Instead, we will be hosting an online convention through Twitch and RIT CampusGroups!

More info will come as we get the OK from RIT to release it. Please keep an eye out for more exciting news!

A Message from Tora-Con Staff

Dearest Attendees,

Everything looks a little different this year, even Tora-Con! While we know this year has been full of unknowns with twists and turns, our staff want to bring you all something to look forward to. By bringing the convention to you online through Twitch, we hope to bring an hour or more of laughter and peace into your day on the 20th of March, 2021.

With all of that being said, we want to let you know that this is all for you. Our staff work hard every day to ensure that Tora-Con can continue for years and years to come. Even though we’ve faced a lot of challenges with the new format, we always rise back up for you all. We run this con for you!

However, as some of you may know, Tora-Con is a completely college student-run event. So not only do we work tirelessly as students, but as staff too. It is important that we remind ourselves that we are students before staff. For some it is easier said than done. Especially for this year, as many breaks, or rest days, have been taken from us, leading to more burn outs than ever before.

While we wait for the green light to run Tora-Con in person in 2022, we hope to bring as many of you together online to make up for the time taken from us in 2020. We can’t wait to see you there!

Tora-Con Staff 2021

Will I need to buy a badge/ticket to attend Tora-Connect?
Nope! Tora-Connect is free to tune in to watch via Twitch. Look out for upcoming announcements!

Where will I be able to catch the stream?
You will be able to watch our stream via Twitch. Our account is currently under construction, but we will announce our channel as soon as it's finished!

Will I be able to buy merch this year?
Yes! We are working on an online merchandise store for attendees who are interested in an assortment of items branded with our lovely mascots.

Are there going to be any 18+ panels?
There will not be any 18+ panels since all content will be publicly streamed on Twitch.

Will you be having any guests?
We will announce guests as the Con draws closer! Keep a lookout for their announcements on social media in the Guests section.

Are you accepting panels from the community?
Unfortunately, we are not able to accept panels from the community. While we do have other RIT affiliated clubs and organizations involved in our con this year, the content has already been recorded and approved by RIT.

Where can I find a schedule for the stream?
We will have the schedule available here on the website and on Twitch as soon as it is complete.

Why is Tora-Con online this year?
We care very much for the health of all our attendees! To keep everyone safe, we are adhering to RIT policies and New York State laws. For more info, please read the Staff Statement section on this page.

Will Tora-Con be online forever?
Tora-Con is only planned to be online as Tora-Connect for 2021. We don't know what the future holds for us, but we intend to have future Tora-Cons be held the way it normally is, unless further precautions need to be taken.

How can I help with Tora-Connect? Can I volunteer to help with Tora-Connect?
If you want to be involved with the creation of Tora-Connect this year, you must apply as staff and be an RIT student. For those who are eligible and interested, please fill out this interest survey on CampusGroups. We are currently unable to accept volunteers, but you can help us out by buying merch or through donations. Stay tuned for links!
